Randy received his Master's in Global Health and Development from the University College London's Institute for Global Health specializing in global health policy and health systems optimization. He conducted a country-wide research project on the barriers to the implementation of effective and comprehensive cardiovascular healthcare policy in China. Randy was awarded a distinction for his work on China and for his policy recommendations to strengthen primary healthcare utilization and better integrate pathway services. Randy also has training in health economics and statistical modeling.
After UCL, Randy attended Boston University's Department of Biomedical Engineering where he gained extensive experience in biomedical research and medical device development. For his capstone project, Randy developed a covered stent sensor to monitor and detect re-stenosis events after stent implantation in collaboration with vascular surgeons of Boston Medical Center. Taking advantage of BU's world class biomedical research community, Randy studied a variety of advanced topics including microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), nanotechnology, advanced biomaterials, medical imaging systems, and machine learning. Additionally, he completed courses in technology ventures and entrepreneurship.
Randy has also led many engineering for global health projects. He recently completed a number of projects in Tanzania working in the areas of maternal health, malaria, and drug quality. He is constantly looking for opportunities for engineering for global health.
Randy is also a Research Scientist at GDIT supporting the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) as well as the interagency collaboration between the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Center for Global Health, Division of Global HIV and Tuberculosis (DGHT), and the Health Informatics Data Management and Statistics Branch (HIDMSB).
